About Puppy Bumpers®!
Ann Price with
Daisy and Rocky.
Ann Price, Georgetown University graduate, mother of 3, grandmother of 4 boys, invented Puppy Bumpers® in 2008 to keep her Maltese Therapy Dog, Daisy, from getting through the bars of the baby gate. Even having duct taped Styrofoam between the rails, Daisy still got through!
One day at a friend’s house while waiting to go out on a boat ride, Daisy was wearing a swim vest. When she tried to get through the wrought iron fence, she couldn’t fit! Of course the idea for Puppy Bumpers® was born! A whole vest wasn’t needed, just a fat collar!
At that point Ann began making Puppy Bumpers® (originally called “Condo Collars”) in her kitchen – just for friends and local shops. In order to bring people to the newly launched website, www.PuppyBumpers.net, an advertisement for Puppy Bumpers® was placed in Dog Fancy Magazine. Much to our delight, Dog Fancy chose Puppy Bumpers® to receive the Editors’ Choice Award for 2008!
Since then, Puppy Bumpers® have been featured on Good Morning America, Fox’s Morning Show, and lots of print media. A patent was granted for Puppy Bumpers® in 2009. Puppy Bumpers® are now available in several national catalogs including In the Company of Dogs and Blair .
2009 found us new manufacturing at STEPS, Inc., a company that employs people with special challenges in Victoria and Farmville, VA. Also a portion of every sale goes to ASK, and organization that gives support to families of children with Cancer.
Ann and her Therapy Dogs, Rocky, Izzy and Daisy visit with Pediatric Patients at the ASK Clinic in Richmond, VA every Friday morning.
Ann is also a Delta Society Instructor and Evaluator. She is a dog trainer specializing in positive training for Therapy Dog Teams. She gives Therapy Dog Workshops at the Richmond SPCA and helps new teams find their niche.
